(More customer reviews)I've had one of these for almost a decade and love the way it handles ice cream. Unfortunately, I also own the "non-stick" version and as the finish ages, the dark color from the scoop is transferred to the ice cream: a most undesirable effect. Seriously, just buy the regular, not-nonstick version.
The real secret is the conductivity of the anti-freeze solution and the aluminum that encases it. The solution readily transfers heat from your hand to the handle, to the liquid, which warms the scoop ever so slightly after you scoop. By pre-warming the handle & liquid in lukewarm (NOT HOT) water for 90 seconds, you'll allow the scoop to release the scooped ice cream faster. Also, that 90 seconds actually lets the ice cream temper before you scoop. The end result: no-longer rock hard ice cream that you can readily scoop and virtually drop in a dish or on a cone. Note: if the surface of the scooped ice cream retains a liquid appearance for more than a few moments or (Eek!) if liquified cream runs off of the ice cream, you've over-heated the handle. Don't worry, just a bit of practice...
