(More customer reviews)**DO NOT BUY** FACTORY DESIGN DEFECT. Yes it's true, in 2010 they cannot design a refrigerator that functions properly. The same cold air that freezes the water tray for cubes, ALSO freezes the water line for the cubes! On top of that, the so called "fix" doesn't work either! Other than that, it's seems to be a pretty nice unit...unless you care about having ice. LED lighting sure is sexy though. Ours stopped working almost immediately. It also had another issue with the ice maker. The optical interrupter plastic slide switch had a mind of it's own. Whenever you closed the door, it would slide into the OFF position! I recall the words of the repairman upon seeing this as he shook his head, "bad design". Well at least if they're going to fail, they might as well from the get go instead of AFTER the "trial" period. Luckily we had ours taken back within our 14 day "extended" trial. I say that because once I knew we had problems that had to be repaired and would take a couple weeks to get parts in, I went to HHG and informed them of the situation and they agreed to extend the trial period till "after" repairs. If they would have said no, I was going to tell them to come pick it up immediately. Everyone should remember to do this when this situation arises. Actually I thought most trial periods were a standard 30 days? Just goes to show how they continue to squeeze for every advantage. What's really disgusting is that these units are still being offered to the public, when they are obviously defective. I imagine Whirlpool is implementing some damage control now. I understand the complexities of product design having worked in engineering. MEMO to Whirlpool: Before you release into the wild, test and VALIDATE your product better. That said, my other two kitchen appliances are Whirlpool. Please don't ruin your good name like Maytag did.
By the way, we got the similar Whirlpool Model WSF26D4EXY with the conventional unit ice maker as a replacement...fingers crossed.

(More customer reviews)Got the GX5SHDXV model, similar to the one shown, about a week ago. It was originally $1298 at Lowes, but the floor model had paint scratches, so they marked it down to $1k. Lowes delivered it (an adventure in itself) but I installed it and set it up. So far so good, it's quiet, makes lots of ice quickly, and has the Energy Star qualification that should save $$ on my electric bill.
There is only one gallon storage shelf in the door; I wrote Whirlpool to send me another to replace the can dispenser shelf that I won't use.
The refrigerator drawers slide nicely, as does the freezer compartment drawer.
The paint finish is very good, once I cleaned off all the tape residue from Lowes (why do they do that?) I used auto detailing spray to make it shine.

What I originally liked about the fridge and why I chose it:
Ice maker is in the door, leaving good space open on fridge shelves.
Has pull out water dispenser for tall glasses and/or sport bottles (nozzle that turns out)
Nice finish
It's a Whirlpool...sure it's expensive but it'll be worth it, right?Icemaker:
Makes very little ice at a time. I saw that issue in another review, but didn't think anything of it because I don't use ice much. The ice maker is so small that it is always VERY loudly making ice. Then the ice melts together into one blob (!)and will barely dispense out...in actual cubes anyway. The left door with the w/ice maker in it is very heavy so within seconds after you open it, it comes right back onto you. This makes it next to impossible to use the deli drawer, since both doors have to be open to pull the drawer out.
Door:
To keep the door from closing in, have tried re-leveling, etc nothing works. The techs who set it up said that it happened to them too. Thought it wouldn't be a big deal, but is actually very annoying trying to hold it open if you need two hands to get stuff out/in the fridge, and it folds in on you. I find myself using the right door only...may as well have my old have my side-by-side back (it was 16 years old and far bypasses this fridge in all aspects)
Motor:
We're on our second fridge in one month because the first one was making strange, loud, whiny-whirring noises each time it cycled on and off. Well, now the second fridge is also doing it. Definitely doesn't sound normal. Of course it's passed the time I can return it now.
Interior:
Compared to other fridges, the shelves and drawers are very plastic-y, cheapish with, rough-edged plastic shelves/drawers..don't look like they'll hold up long.
Finish:
maybe this is the issue with all stainless appliances? No matter what special cleaner I buy for it, the fridge is left with smear marks. Don't know, maybe I'm doing something wrong there.
Water Dispenser:
Okay, so the ONLY thing that I like about this fridge is the cool programmable water dispenser. Can allocate three different ounce volumes to fill a glass/bottle. It turns itself off after reaching chosen ounce size.
So, I guess what I essentially have in my kitchen is a $2,200.00 water dispenser!
I don't write many reviews on all the products I buy, but I am making a point to on this fridge because I want to warn others NOT to spend this kind of money on something that in NO way lives up to what quality it should be. There are plenty of other options out there. Samsung for one seems to do really well. Hard to believe that Whirlpool can sell these fridges in good conscience. It's too late for me but not for you :-) Good luck

I was very frustrated when I didn't see the dial start to spin when installed. I actually took the part out and sent it back thinking it was defective. Well it turns out the part has an internal thermostat that has to get cold to the right temperature in order to kick the icemaker on. They failed to leave out this very important bit of information. The common lay person would never know this. So don't send it back, give it 24hrs to work!

(More customer reviews)We've had our black Whirlpool Gold Latitude (model GI7FVCXWB) refrigerator for three months. We purchased it in February of 2010. We give this refrigerator a five star rating.
This refrigerator is everything we wanted. We love that we no longer need measuring cups for adding water to a recipe. The door shelves are wide enough for gallon bottles. Both the refrigerator and freezer are huge. We had a second freezer because the top freezer on our previous refrigerator was so small. I have unplugged the second freezer because it is no longer needed.
The ability of the ice maker to dispense cubes or crushed ice is great. Although I've seen some complaints regarding the noise level of the ice maker, it is no louder than any other refrigerator ice maker. The noise level does not draw your attention to it nor does it drown out conversations or cause any other distress.
My only complaint is with the Owner's Manual. The refrigerator has a door ajar alarm. Unfortunately, the Owner's Manual does not provide good instructions for turning the alarm on. Once, I figure out how to set the door ajar alarm, we will have no concerns with our black Whirlpool Gold Latitude.

Whirlpool : Cabrio Series 28 inch Top Load Washer : White Review

(More customer reviews)I bought a Whirlpool Cabrio December 2006 from Lowe's ( LOWES ) in Kentlands Maryland. The machine worked for about 9 months and I haven't been able to use my washing machine since October 2007. Every part in the machine has basically been replaced at least once if not twice. Whirlpool has a problem ...and they refuse to fix the problem. They will send a factory repairman and he doesn't do anything. He claims that he fixed it by having the computer simulate an actual wash cycle. It is never fixed; when your warranty expires...that's it. The repairman told me there is nothing more that can be done and Whirlpool claims that its been fixed. Lowes is also worthless... they just spin you off to Whirlpool.
What should we do about it???
First, continuously encourage Whirlpool to do what's right and recall a defective machine.
Second, as long as Whirlpool continues to do this, make certain that every Cabrio owner knows of the problem before paying for repairs.
Third... make sure every consumer considering an appliance purchase knows that Whirlpool & Lowes should be avoided as long as this type of issue remains unresolved.
And finally, Save all the work orders; Don't trust them.

(More customer reviews)Pros: The full width, but shallow produce/deli drawer is useful and good to have a selectable temp according to what's in it. We set the temp to Deli and keep sliced meats and cheese in it and its perfect for that, wide but shallow so everything is visible. That drawer complements the usual 2 produce drawers which are directly above. Door storage is nicely adjustable. The freezer has an upper drawer that works well for storage.
Cons: The icemaker kicks the ice into the tray with a real racket. Our old Amana made some noise this way, but this one wakes me up some nights. The ice thru the door will splash the drink onto the floor if there is already liquid in the glass (maybe other models do this too). The buttons on the door for controlling the fridge and thru-door functions aren't very good. The buttons are part of a smooth face, but the lighted phrases that indicate the mode are not buttons, the buttons are around the edges and aren't lit. Most folks try to press on the lighted phrases, which is more intuitive. For instance, to get ice thru the door, you have to first look and see if the symbol above "cubed", "crushed", or "water", is lit, and if your desired selection is not lit, you have to press the button marked "ice & water", WHICH IS NOT LIT, until your desired selection is lit. I know how to work it now, but no one new figures it out without help.
I should caveat these cons with the fact that we chose this fridge without trying it out first. We went to a Sears scratch and dent store, where we were able to save $1000 off list, but the models weren't powered up for demo. If I could have tried them powered up and found another model with more intuitive door controls I might have chosen that. But overall it is a very good fridge, especially at the price we paid.

(More customer reviews)I bought this thing for around $1500, if memory serves, from a local department store. I was sucked in by its beautifully spacey interior--the vertical strip of lighting--and the generally high ratings that Samsung refrigerators get from various organizations. (Of course, this particular model I couldn't find the ratings for.)
There is actually nothing wrong with this thing. But after having it for about 6 months now, my question is, is this refrigerator worth the $1200 difference between one of those old-fashioned white things we used to have. Yes, the head of lettuce no longer freezes up. (But I'll bet there are those cheap white refrigerators that don't freeze their lettuce either.)
I am amazed that for $1500 they still can't design an ice dispenser that 1) doesn't splash ice all over the floor and 2) make crystal clear ice like you get from dedicated ice machines. It doesn't seem like this would be too difficult to add to the refrigerator. (When manufacturers do add this, it will be a game changer for refrigerator manufacturers the way spell-check was for word processing programs -- everyone will want to upgrade.)
Also, this stainless steel is not magnetic, so the entire front of it is unable to be used for notes or anything. Also, the fingerprint problem has been horrendous with our kids. It requires constant cleaning (though wife did finally go get some stainless steel cleaner from the store and it looks brand new again). There is a model with a different surface called platina or something like that that is supposed to be magnetic and reduce fingerprints. Wish I'd gone with that model.
I believe that the way this type of refrigerator maintains its energy rating is because the bottom half of the refrigerator compartment consists of three drawers. When you open the door, no air escapes from these drawers. That's cool. On the other hand, having to open the drawers all the time to see what's inside is a hassle. (The fronts of the drawers are clear, but you can't seen what's in back.
With my old white refrigerator I used a Brita pitcher for water. This Samsung came with a filter of a brand I've never heard of. To me, it just doesn't taste as good as the Brita filtered water. Also, the temperature of the water, if you choose to drink it without ice is no very cold, as if it is just in the pipe outside the refrigerator until it gets filtered. You'd think that for $1500 they could make the water cold before it gets dispensed. I am also suspect of the filter because when water drips on the little tray under it, it leaves a big hard water spot. If the filter was working, shouldn't it not do that?
Anyway, I am really questioning whether I shouldn't have just bought one of those cheap $300 refrigerators.

(More customer reviews)We have a LOT of particulates in our water and this flter does a fantastic job. Unfortunately performance drops quickly, reducing flow to an annoyingly slow drizzle. If you have a lot of particles and are not concerned with cysts etc, you may want to downgrade to the 8171413 which is also effective with chlorine and lead reduction but seems to last far longer before flow is restricted.

(More customer reviews)We purchased this refrigerator several months ago and have been very disappointed. It is poorly constructed and noisy. The shelves and drawers are very inferior quality and easily broken. There are not enough shelves and they are poorly arranged so we actually have less storage than we did with our old 25' refrigerator. This purchase was a bad mistake.

The site will let you know the proper filter by using your model number. You cannot tell by just comparing them as they look a lot alike. PUR PBSS Push-Button Refrigerator Ice and Water Filter Cartridge Review

(More customer reviews)It seems there are a LOT of misuderstandings in these reviews. If you own a Sears refridgerator it IS a Whirlpool, or Kitchen Aid, or whatever else with a "Kenmore" name plate on it. Sears doesn't make their appliances and they purchase appliance from varios companys and put their "Kenmore" brand on it. I have a Whirlpool fridge, Whirlpool dishwaher, and GE microwave. They all say Kenmore and the stainless stell matches perfectly. A Sears sales rep will tell you who makes the specific unit. This is true for Kenmore washers & dryers as well, all appliance. Secondly, Whirlpool, Kitchen Aid, Kenmore, etc. do not make the filters. Sears, Whirlpool, etc. sell the filter with their markings on it. PUR make the filter. This is not a cheaper replacement for the filter, it is the same filter. I have been using PUR filters bought on-line for 5 years now and it is the same filter that came in the refridgerator when I bought it. The only thing to keep in mind is that the "universal PUR Filter", that fits all push button, in the grill units, does not have the same filtration as the the specific PUR filter that comes with the fridge. For example the "Universal" filter is about $26 on Amazon and my fridge came with a PUR 4396710 which cost about $32 on Amazon. Both will work, but the $32 unit filters out about 11 types of impurities, the $26 unit is 4 types. I buy the 4396710 to protect my 2 year old and wife. What is $7 more when it's your family's health. They are about $50 each at Sears.
I hope this information helps clear up some misconceptions and helps people make an educated decision on what to buy.
